Rotary's Motto is "Service Above Self"
It is a great slogan, but Mottos are empty until they result in projects with tangible results. Below are some of the many projects in which the Rotary Club of Asheville members are engaged:
Rotarians Against Hunger (RAH) / Stop Hunger Now SHN)
Rotary District 7670 and Rotary Club of Asheville have joined with SHN in a project to help erradicate hunger. For more information click HERE
ABCCM Veterans Breakfast
Every year The Rotary Club of Asheville meets on Thanksgiving morning to serve those who have served our country. More Information HERE
Salvation Army
During the Holiday season the Rotary Club of Asheville partners with the Salvation Army. We take one day of Bellringing to help raise money for their programs to address hunger, disaster relief, substance abuse, and many other efforts. More information HERE
Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE)
World peace can never happen until peoples of the world meet each other and join hands in friendship. RI and Rotary Club of Asherville actively pursue opportunities to meet with people of other nations and cultures, knowing that contact leads to understanding and peace. More information HERE
Each year, at a club and district level, the Rotary Club of Asheville hosts or participates in several very special flights established for the purpose of honoring the veterans of our greatest generation. This all expense paid flight to Washington, DC allows our WWII veterans to tour the World War II memorial and witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Arlington Cemetary. They also visit the Korean, Lincoln, Vietnam, Women's Memorial and others as time allows.
The Rotary Club of Asheville flew WWII veterans to our Nation's capitol on September 29, 2007 and May 10, 2008, making a total 300 WWII veterans who have made the trip to see their own memorial. We will continue this service as long as funding lasts and there are veterans to serve.
We adopted this community service project to show our appreciation to those veterans for the many sacrifices that were made. Many of us tend to overlook the accomplishments of these veterans and take for granted what they fought for. We live in a free country because of their patriotism and valor.
